 Welcome to the Lion Class page!

Here you will see updates and information about some of our exciting learning this year.

Lion Class - Maths

The children are split into their own year groups and taught based on individual years. We are using White Rose to support and guide deliver our Maths lessons throughout the school.

We are working on children's fluency in Maths. Therefore, each child has a piece of fluency to complete at the start of every day.

Year 4 has their Statutory Multiplication check this year. Children can enjoy practising their timetables on https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/ or on https://talkingtimestables.uk/y4_ks2_mtc_practice_tests_multiplication_tables_check.php 

The Year 4's have also been using songs to help them remember their times tables. Please keep listening at home, as this will help them to know them confidently.

Hit the Button and Daily 10 are also very useful websites to help with maths skills.

This term's focus is Place value.

Infinity quiz, if your child would like some extra support with Maths and finds a certain area tricky. i have created some infinity quizzes to access the quizzes in the tab above, use the app or Google and type in Infinity White Rose then scan the QR code above to play the quiz.

Lion Class - English

In lion class, we use a wide varied approach to teaching English to make sure the children develop all areas expected by the national curriculum. We try to make the lesson as engaging and purposeful as possible.

During  Autumn term 1 we will be exploring and writing a biography. Based on the book Hidden Figures written by Margot Lee Shetterly. (NASA needs you! You have been chosen to tell the story of one of the incredible women who helped America reach space. Your mission is to create an inspirational biography that makes readers understand why their achievements mattered.) 

Then we will look at and explore a range of poetry, including Kit Wright's The Magic Box.

We currently use Spelling shed  to teach Spelling and Grammar. Children can also access this at home. https://www.spellingshed.com/en-us Each child has their own login. This website allows children to practice each week's spellings in a fun and engaging way. 

Lion Class - Homework

The expectation for each child is to practice their weekly spellings, timetables and read regularly.

Spellings are often printed and stuck into each child's reading record, or they can use EdShed to practice https://www.edshed.com/en-gb. 

Times tables can also be practised on https://ttrockstars.com/ 

All children have their own access and logins to these websites. All login details are stuck in their reading records.

 

Lion Class - Guided Reading

In Lion Class we have been developing our reading skills using a range of skills and techniques throughout the week. Focusing on Fluency reading, Extended reading and Close reading. The book we are exploring is The Odyssey by Gillian Cross.

Each child has been given a book by school to read, but, of course, they can read a book from home, they can read to themselves or parents/carers, but please write in their reading record when and how much they have read, ideally three times a week. Reading records will be checked regularly. 

Useful information 

Term 1 - PE is currently on Monday (JB Sports - OOA ) and Thursday (Netball) , so please remember to send the children their school PE kits and remove earrings. Long hair is also expected to be tied back.
