Koala Class - Year 1

Teacher : Miss Godber

Welcome to Koala Class. In our class we work hard and have fun. Come and see some of our 'koalaty' learning.

Useful Information

PE days

Our PE days for the Summer Term are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember to come to school in your PE kit on these days, as well as removing your earrings and tying your hair back.

Forest School

Koala Class will be taking part in Forest School sessions every Thursday. Please come to school in normal uniform and bring with you old clothes, including a long-sleeved top to wear. Other equipment, such as wellington boots or old trainers, sun cream, and insect repellent can be left in school. Make sure your child is prepared for all weather.

Reading Books

Reading books will be changed every Friday. They will also have the opportunity to take a 'reading for pleasure' book home from the class reading area for you to share at home whenever they would like to.

Homework

Reading: At least 3 times a week.

Phonics: We are currently learning our Phase 5 sounds. Phonics Play is a good website to use to practice blending sounds to read words. You do not need to sign up and pay for an account, click on resources for free games. Phonics Bloom is another site the children are familiar with.

Maths: We have been using the game Hit The Button to help practice our maths skills. Click on Number Bonds and play the games Make 10 or Addition within 10.

In the Spring Term, we have been making equal groups as the start of multiplication. Click on Times Tables and play x2, x5 or x10. If you don't feel confident to try those games, click on the Doubles game.

World Book Day 2025

This year, to celebrate World Book Day, we retold the story 'We're Going on A Bear Hunt' using Makaton signs. The children had fun learning them and did an excellent job.
